Washington, D.C.: On November 1st, D.C. Police Vice Detectives raided the offices of Stars Magazine and the apartment of associate publisher, Glenn Turner. No arrests have been made, but numerous photos and files of Stars Magazine were confiscated. It is believed that charges may be filed later.

Los Angeles, Calif.: 23 year old Scott Thorson, who for 6 years was employed as a chauffeur/bodyguard/companion by piano virtuso Liberace is now suing Liverace for nearly $380 million. Thorson contends that Liberace promised him half of everything he owns. Thorson first met Liberace in 1976 backstage through mutual friends. Allegedy, Liberace took Thorson in paying him $7,000 a month to make Liberace happy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Late last year, Liberace was discovered with an 18 year old man. Shortly after that, Liberace had Thorson evicted and coerced him into signing a settlement of $75,000. Thorson claims the settlement was signed under duress.

Atlanta, Ga: Dr. Harold Jaffee of the national centers for disease control reports that the number of cases of Acquired Immune Deficience Syndrome has doubled every six months since discovered. The illness begins with a breakdown in the body's natural defenses. It develops into a rare skin cancer or a variety of infections, most commonly a form of pneumonia. A recent study reported in the New England Journal of medicine has shown that as many as 83% of homosexual men may have immunodeficiency. Dr. Paul Volberding of San Francisco feels that this disease may be highly contagious and fears a huge outbreak. Since June of 1981, 665 cases have been reported and 270 victims have died.

New York, N.Y.: On November 10th, Five New York City area medical research projects aimed at combating the devastating effects of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), have been awarded research grants totalling more than $30,000 by Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), it was announced.

The Metroplex Magazine received national recognition this month as being one of 80 publications in the United States that believes in the "free gay press spirit."

80 publications were chosen out of 189 U.S. gay publications to be listed in Mandate, the international magazine of entertainment and eros.
